The mineral is bovine; the collagen binder is porcine. Every other collagenated product in our database uses bovine collagen. For a patient with a religious or dietary restriction this is the deciding fact, and bovine and porcine restrictions are not the same restriction, so neither half of the composition can stand in for the whole.

Our note Quoted because it is the most restrained membrane statement any manufacturer in this category makes, and it contradicts the blanket no-membrane marketing common among plugs. Our own position is conditional in the same direction: only an intact, contained socket supports one-step placement without a separate membrane.

Human histology of ridge preservation with deproteinized bovine bone mineral reports the particles as not resorbed but surrounded by new bone, at 19.0 ± 6.5% of tissue at six months. The mineral acts as an osteoconductive scaffold and a long-term space maintainer rather than being replaced. Reviews have not established this class, or any class, as clinically superior for hard-tissue outcomes.

Bio-Oss and Bio-Oss Collagen appear in independent peer-reviewed trials and histological studies across ridge preservation and guided bone regeneration, including the histology cited above.
